2013 Exterior Color Paint Trends: North
While outdoor painting season may be shorter in northern states, the region provides countless scenes and landscapes for inspiration in choosing the best color for your home’s exterior. Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin-Moore, two of our preferred home painting partners, have color experts who work-year round to bring the latest exterior color trends to your community.
The latest trends for exterior painting in 2013 are inspired by the gorgeous surroundings found throughout nature. The northern region features cool temperatures and gentle ponds, lakes and coast lines, making softened shades of blue a very popular focal color in 2013. A combination of accents that contrast and a trim color that embodies the sleek lines of your home will create a strong visual appeal throughout your exterior. Here are a variety of accents and trim colors to choose from in the 2013 Sherwin-Williams selection:
- Dusty red
- Subdued gray and green tones
- Edgy, darker gold and yellow tones
- Bronze and burlap
The northern region features several classic colonial and craftsman style homes that Benjamin-Moore focused their attention on when crafting their exterior color schemes for 2013. The focal tones for Benjamin-Moore’s colonial homes are down-to-earth brownish-grays with deep brown or charcoal gray shutters, and an attention-grabbing red front door maintaining the upscale look.
When painting a craftsman style home, use a lighter hue for the focal exterior walls and a deeper shade of the same color for the upper accent walls. Trim with white and paint shutters dark blue to add further contrast and visual appeal.
